Trivandrum: History was just a mouse click away from their fingertips as more than 5 lakhs students of standard 9 all across Kerala took up their seats before personal computers in their school computer labs in March 2004, to “write” the annual IT examination, using a special software.
It was for the first time in the history of Kerala that an examination was conducted in this manner. The IT@School project conducted the annual IT examination for standard 9 using the software Softexam 1.0, developed for this purpose by M/s Team e-biz Ernakulam. This exam was developed on the concept that IT is a practical paper, and that the skill on it should be tested using nothing other than computers instead of paper and pen.
The software has a 5 minutes demo on how to write the exam. There is a friendly cartoon character called PINGU, which makes the students feel at home. The exam was well accepted with enthusiasm by teachers and students.
